The recycling of food waste is done directly from the kitchen, so there is no need to collect it separately or take it to a separate collection bin. Therefore, easily leaking and waste treatment equipment clogging food waste bags are also not needed. The system also eliminates the odor problems caused by food waste.

The food waste disposer is intended only for grinding food waste excluding biodegradable waste bags so, for example plastic, glass, metal or cardboard should never be placed into the disposer. Food waste disposer can be used for food waste that typically accumulates in the kitchen, such as leftovers, fruit and vegetable peels, eggshells, coffee grounds and filters, fish and meat waste and even small bones. However, grease, oil or fats should never be poured into the food waste disposer or down the drain.
The food waste disposer used in the BER™ system uses innovative technology that allows even the toughest food waste to be ground up as quietly as possible. The device, along with water, grinds the food waste into a fine mass through a three-stage grinding process. When using the disposer, cold water should be used.
Turn the faucet on to a medium stream and always use cold water. Turn on the food waste disposer and gradually feed the food waste into it while running cold water. The water will help the food waste to flush easily down the pipe into the BER™ tank. Do not put large quantities of food waste into the disposer all at once. Continue to run cold water for a few seconds after grinding is complete, so that the ground food waste is flushed away.
The food waste disposer is safe to use and does not contain any blades like blender. Instead, it uses a three-stage grinding technique. In the first stage food waste is crushed in disposer’s chamber by two rotating impellers and fixed lugs against a surface of the stationary grind shear ring. In the second stage crushed food waste is further shredded down into even smaller particles as it forced through small pass-through windows in the grind ring. The metal parts and centrifugal force help to spin the food waste and water through the small windows and down into the lower part of the disposer. In third stage a undercutter disc below the chamber further cuts down the food waste into particles about the size of a half grain of rice. Thus, the food waste disposer together with water, essentially turns food waste into a fine mass.
The food waste disposer has a jam-sensor that detects hard-to-grind food waste and increases the torque of the disposer momentarily if necessary. If any object that does not belong there ends up in the disposer, try to immediately turn off the device. If an object clogs the disposer and the device is unable to grind it, the safety feature will shut it down. The object can be removed from the disposer while it is secured that the power is off.

A food waste disposer does not need regular servicing, nor does it require manual cleaning. For cleaning the disposer we recommend using citrus fruits and ice cubes. Cleaning solvents or chemicals of any type such as caustic drain cleaners should not be used.
The BER™ tank is emptied by a waste management company using a suction vehicle and the food waste is transported for further processing.
Food waste can be further processed e.g., into a valuable biogas, which serves as a better alternative to fossil fuels. Biogas can be used to produce electricity and heat, as well as a fuel for transportation, especially in heavy-duty vehicles. As a byproduct of biogas production, residual sludge is created, which is a useful fertilizer that can be used instead of traditional fertilizers. Therefore, the raw material can be utilized as efficiently as possible.
A large portion of household food waste is incinerated with mixed waste in incineration plants, resulting in the food waste being completely unused. Food waste has a high moisture content (60-90 %), so when it is thrown into mixed waste, it reduces the energy efficiency of the waste-to-energy plant and increases emissions and corrosion.
